It was a perfect New York City late summer evening on September 15th when city residents were suddenly treated to a 1,000 drone spectacle high above the East River that sent them scurrying for the iPhones to share on social.

Our client, the Eat Differently campaign, which inspires people to eat plants, not animals, was proud to be an integral part of the first sanctioned drone show in New York City. The show coincided with the start of the 78th United Nations General Assembly, the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Ambition Summit, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit, along with New York City’s Climate Week.

The Eat Differently campaign is a PSA homage to the iconic 1990’s Think Different campaign. The campaign makes the connection that the luminaries featured in that ad (Gandhi, Jane Goodall, Albert Einstein, and others) not only thought differently but they ate differently too. They ate plants, not animals.

UN delegates and their guests watched the awe-inspiring show on the grand balcony of the United Nations and were a captive audience for the indisputable message sent by Eat Differently that eating plants, not animals will significantly address 11 of the 17 UN SDGs.

This light show was just the second phase of the Eat Differently campaign. This summer, the organization purchased 29 billboards in and around the city of San Diego that showcased luminaries past and present (Paul McCartney, Greta Thunberg, Cesar Chavez and several others) who ate differently, adopting an animal-free diet.

We at Scout 22 are proud to have been a part of this first-of-its kind aerial show from the seed of an idea to projection in the skies over New York. Seeing the message that we can solve so many of the planet’s ills by changing what’s on our plates high above one of the biggest cities in the world was historic and we are grateful for the incredible response from people around the world who say the amazing footage.
